Welcome!

My name is Susan Pearson, and I am the author of more than thirty books for children, including picture books, chapter books, and collections of verse.  I’m also a children’s book editor.

I’ve always felt incredibly lucky: I get to spend my days doing what I love to do—writing and editing books for kids.  It can be hard work.  Sometimes I’m stumped for the right word or phrase.  Sometimes I’m getting tangled in a plot.  But even at those times, I love my job. 

Often I feel like a detective—hunting for just the right word to use in a poem, finding the clues to solve a mystery, figuring out what’s going to happen next in a story. 

Other times I’m like a gardener—planting the seed of a story and watching it grow.  Sometimes it grows in the wrong direction or way too looooooong and I have to prune it back, but it’s a wonderful feeling when I’ve finally got it growing straight and it blooms!
